While election-mania captivated the nation this week, we’ve been working behind the scenes to gain better access to the UN in the bid for a bigger voice for the faith-persecuted.

Dr Cristina OlazabalPERU: Charges dropped against defender, Dr Cristina Olazabal

Dr Cristina Olazabal is a Peruvian human rights lawyer who for many years has called to account those responsible for grave abuses against the Peruvian people.  Last month we asked you to campaign for her release and we’re so happy to report that the charges against her were dropped by the courts.

It’s not the first time Dr Olazabal has been targeted for her human rights work.  She was demoted from her position as chief prosecutor in the region of Ayacucho in what was believed to be retaliation for her investigation and prosecution of members of the military regarding human rights atrocities.

While awaiting a verdict, Cristina was in touch with CSW to express her gratitude for all the encouraging cards that supporters had sent her, saying “You don’t know how happy I was to learn that you remembered me!”
>>> Pray for Cristina as she returns to work

How would you respond if your community was violently attacked just for being Christians?  Have your say and learn more about advocacy in international affairs, and the global dynamics of religious liberty. Saturday 22 May, starting at 12 noon, Sound, Leicester Square, London.
