27 May 2010
Today we give thanks and celebrate the acquittal of Maryam & Marzieh, and the inclusion of CSW’s work into a key EU resolution on Pakistan’s religious freedom.

Iran - Maryam and MarziehIRAN: Maryam and Marzieh acquitted!
After weeks of uncertainty during their trial in an Iranian court, we heard that Maryam and Marzieh were acquitted! However, they were  warned of severe consequences if they were caught practicing Christianity again, and have now left Iran.
Keen to thank their prayer supporters, Marzieh said “we are most grateful to everyone who prayed for us…I have no doubt that God heard the prayers of His people.” Maryam added, “I believe our arrest, imprisonment and subsequent release were in the timing and plan of God, and it was all for His glory.  But the prayers of people encouraged and sustained us throughout this ordeal.”
Charged with apostasy and the propagation of Christianity, the two young women were first put on trial in Tehran’s revolutionary court - normally reserved for enemies of the state and military cases - before being redirected to a lower level court.
>>> Give thanks and continue to pray for Maryam and Marzieh

European Parliament, Strausberg

PAKISTAN: Celebrating the EU’s action
From Strasbourg we were thrilled to hear last week that a key European Parliament resolution on  religious freedom in Pakistan was passed.  CSW was able to contribute to the resolution consultation process and we are pleased that it has been adopted in time for the next EU-Pakistan summit, where religious freedom issues like the draconian blasphemy laws may be discussed.
>>> Pray for godly influence in Pakistan’s legislative process.

NIGERIA: Kano state churches demolished
Three more churches in northern Kano state have been demolished, one for the fourth time since it was first built.  Kano State is one of the most repressive areas for Nigerian Christians. They cannot construct new church buildings and can find it difficult to  access jobs, education and other amenities.
>>> Pray for Kano state Christians
