In His Image: Understanding and embracing the poor By Andy Matheson |

Moving forward with the Faithworks 2010 Declaration |

If the world knew that they were made in God’s image, what difference would it make? If people knew that their very being was of great worth, was valued, had the reflection of the divine in it, what impact would it have?
Andy Matheson, Oasis International Director, has first hand experience of the injustices that have developed in our world. He has worked in developing countries around the world and lived in Mumbai, a city with an extremely high rate of poverty, human trafficking and child labour.
Andy argues that it is not the resources that we provide to the poor, but the relationship we build with them that will really make a difference.

Almost every country in the world uses GDP – Gross Domestic Product – to measure its success and social progress. But does GDP really capture what is really important to us? Does it measure what really matters? The New Economics Foundation is calling for governments to directly measure people’s subjective well-being: their experiences, feelings and perceptions of how their lives are going, as a new way of assessing societal progress. |
