ChinaEUROPEAN PARLIAMENT HEARING:  Chinese human rights lawyers speak out
Next week CSW is delighted to host a Chinese delegation at a European Parliament hearing in Brussels. CSW was instrumental in securing the invitation for two Chinese human rights lawyers to give evidence at the meeting of the Subcommittee on human rights. Giving a platform for such testimony is crucial to ensuring that the EU is rightly informed and thus better equipped to raise, and act upon, human rights concerns.

As well as briefing MEPs, CSW often provides opportunities for human rights defenders and victims of persecution to give expert testimony, giving MEPs the chance to digest and act upon human rights issues.

Travelling to Europe to speak up comes with security risks for the Chinese delegation – please pray for the security surrounding their travel and the visit overall.

Please pray that the testimony of our delegation of Chinese human rights lawyers next week will make an impact!

Inclusive India

INCLUSIVE INDIA: justice for Orissa victims
In follow-up to CSW’s ongoing lobbying for victims of violence in Orissa, we heard last week of high-profile Manoj Pradhan’s seven-year prison sentence in one of fourteen cases originally brought against him.  Representing India’s foremost Hindu nationalist party, Mr Pradhan’s conviction is an encouraging boost to accountability for those responsible for the 2008 Orissa attacks which claimed at least 70 lives and displaced 50,000 people.

Eritrea

Answer to prayer for Eritrean refugees in Libya
Thank you so much for urgently praying for the Eritrean refugees in Libya facing the threat of repatriation, where they were certain to encounter further brutality and even death.  The Italian Government has now announced a plan for the release of the detainees.
