Local climate lobby - Tearfund newsletter

Welcome to Global Action email.

Six months ago international climate talks in Copenhagen fell flat, and the urgently needed global deal wasn’t agreed. Now global action to tackle climate change is in danger of slipping off the agenda especially in times of financial crisis.

This November we have an opportunity to speak out ahead of the next round of climate talks for the UK government to keep climate change high on the national and international agenda. Join Tearfund and the Stop Climate Chaos coalition for The Climate Lobby on 5 and 6 November to meet your MP to ask them to act urgently to tackle climate change

FIND YOUR VOICE

In November Tearfund is joining with the Stop Climate Chaos coalition for The Climate Lobby. This is a great opportunity for you and your church to stand alongside other members of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition to speak to MPs about urgent action to tackle climate change.

Climate change is hitting the poorest people hardest. After the disappointing outcome at Copenhagen last year, much more action is needed to secure the deep emissions cuts and money to help protect poor communities from the changing climate.

Martin Luther King said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” The church is called to be the prophetic voice to society and to speak truth. Our MPs need to hear the local church speaking out as part of the global church calling them to remember the poorest people even in these times of continued financial crisis.

Please join the Climate Lobby in your constituency on 5 and 6 November. Put the date in your diary and register your interest by hitting reply or emailing We’ll keep you informed and help you link up with others in your area.
