04 March 2010
In this special prayer focus issue, your prayers are urgently needed for a Pakistani Christian sentenced to life imprisonment, and Christians still under threat in Nigeria.

Parvez Choudhry from Legal Aid for Destitute and Settlement (LADS)Pray for Qamar David, sentenced to life in prison under Pakistan’s Blasphemy Laws

Last week we asked you to pray for Qamar David, a Pakistani Christian who was on trial for alleged blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed. CSW is sad to report that he was sentenced last Thursday to life imprisonment. The verdict has been described as “biased and prejudiced” by a source close to Qamar.

Thank you for your prayers for the safety of Qamar and his lawyer, Parvez Choudhry – we’re delighted that they were not attacked physically. Please keep praying for Qamar and Parvez, as they plan to appeal and their security is still a concern.

Nigeria, Jos

Watch extraordinary footage of the violence in Jos, Nigeria

CSW sources on the ground in Nigeria have produced a documentary about the events that took place earlier this year in Jos. Attacks on Christians resulted in hundreds of deaths, and displaced almost 24000 people.

Although the situation has calmed considerably, there have been several so-called ‘silent killings’, particularly in Barkin Ladi and Jos South. Several people were killed in a series of attacks during curfew hours on villages in Riyom by Hausa Fulani Muslims.  Many are now leaving the area.

CSW is still lobbying for unbiased media coverage of these events. If you’ve already lobbied the BBC on this issue, please let us know. If you got a reply relating to Afghanistan, please make a complaint to the BBC.

Help a Mother in need this Mother’s Day - 14 March!

Every mother deserves a special gift this Mother’s day.  For some mothers in Nigeria, that gift could be as simple as helping her to feed her family.

Anti-Christian violence in northern Nigeria has left hundreds of widows struggling to survive without their husband’s income. Just £10 helps to provide milling machines, sewing machines, and other equipment to help grieving families get back on their feet.

Your £10 will go directly to those who need it most, and we’ll send you a beautiful gift card – blank for your own message, so you can give it to your loved one to tell them about the gift you’ve bought on their behalf.
